The Challenge placed eight amateur athletes in the toughest sports events in the world. These included the Polar Challenge (a 13 day race to the South Pole in temperatures of minus 60 degrees), The Yukon (a non-stop 400 mile canoeing event across four days and nights) and climbing Mount Everest.
Training for such events usually takes years and a minimum 20-30 sessions of sports psychology. In view of the time constraints imposed by the BBC, Gary had just three sessions to prepare the competitors.
Far exceeding all expectations, two of the challengers won their races and a third set a new world record. All experienced a rapid increase in mental resilience, a growing awareness of personal potential and a profound improvement in performance.
